The Whitaker Jazz Education Initiative, made possible through a generous grant from the Whitaker Foundation, consists of programs for children and adults alike! The Initiative includes the following activities:
- Jazz 101, designed to demystify the music and guide the participants to a better understanding of jazz.
- CD Listening Club, monthly meetings at Borders in Brentwood hosted by local celebrities that feature moderator-led discussions around a jazz music CD, its artist and history.
- Whitaker Community Concerts, which take jazz to people throughout the region.
The Initiative also helps fund the Adopt-A-School program. The adopted schools receive a higher level of involvement from Jazz St. Louis that includes programming and services tailored to each school’s unique needs.
