Alfredo Rodriguez & Pedrito Martinez Duo

Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito MartinezExclusively Sponsored by Marian Nunn & Tom Wendel

“[Alfredo’s] potential is limitless” – Quincy Jones

“working with [Pedrito] has been a revelation to me” – Wynton Marsalis

Cuban-born, Grammy-nominated artist Alfredo Rodríguez reflects the talents of legendary jazz pianists Keith Jarrett, Thelonious Monk, and Art Tatum. Schooled in the rigorous classical conservatories of Havana, Rodríguez’s riveting artistry is informed as much by Bach and Stravinsky as it is by his Cuban and jazz roots. Discovered and mentored by legendary producer Quincy Jones, Rodríguez has taken the opportunity to learn about music all over the world, infusing his explosive technique with the sounds of numerous cultures.

Now, Rodríguez joins with another Cuban-born musical prodigy in Pedrito Martinez for a rare duo show assembled specifically for Jazz at the Bistro. Martinez, a vocalist and percussionist, is a consummate master of Afro-Cuban folkloric music and the batá drum. The Grammy-nominated, first-call rombero has recorded or performed with the likes of jazz legends Wynton Marsalis and Chucho Valdez, as well as popular music icons including Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, and James Taylor.
