Poncho Sanchez and Terence Blanchard

Cubano Be, Cubano Bop: Poncho Sanchez & his Latin Jazz Band featuring Terence Blanchard

Part of the 9th Annual UMSL Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival, presented by the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Touhill Performing Arts Center, & Jazz St. Louis.

Two Grammy-Award-winning legends combine in this high-energy evening of Afro-Cuban big-band jazz presented by Jazz St. Louis. Cubano Be, Cubano Bop is a tribute to the legacy of the original conga king, Chano Pozo, and his co-creator in Latin jazz, “Dizzy” Gillespie, and their seminal 1947 Carnegie Hall concert.  Get into one of jazz’ great grooves with Latin bop classics such as “Manteca” and “Tin Tin Deo” plus original compositions and new collaborations.

“Arguably, the Laredo, Texas-born conguero may be the best Latin Jazz musician out there today.” – Phoenix New Times

The 9th Annual UMSL Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival brings more than 50 collegiate and high school big bands and combos to St. Louis to learn from some of the biggest names in professional jazz, top educators, and each other.
