JAZZ 101: THE RHYTHM SECTION
Submitted by Melissa Jones on Tue, 03/11/2008 - 10:23.
Have you ever wondered how jazz musicians know what to do onstage? Or why certain instruments are used in jazz performances? Perhaps you want to know more about jazz history or need some signposts to guide you through a jazz performance. If this is you, then Jazz 101 is right for you! Jazz 101, sponsored by the Whitaker Foundation, is Jazz St. Louis' newest series that is designed to help you get the most out of your jazz experience.
Our inaugural Jazz 101 presentation will take place at the Bistro on Thursday, March 20, at 8:30 p.m. This presentation will look at the rhythm section: the combination of piano, bass and drums that makes up the foundation of most jazz ensembles. You will learn about how this particular group of instruments came about, its history and the role each of the instruments plays in a jazz performance. The presentation will feature our Director of Education, Phil Dunlap, an accomplished jazz pianist who will lead the presentation. It promises to be an enjoyable and informative evening for those new to jazz as well as the aficionado.
We hope you can join us for this exciting new presentation. To order tickets just click on the following link: http://www.metrotix.com/event.php?eventId=2810
