Cyrus Chestnut Trio and Jon Faddis Conclude JSL’s Residency Program

Phil Dunlap

Next week we begin our final Residency of the 2010-2011 season.  This one is definitely one for the books and features the wonderful Cyrus Chestnut Trio and the equally great Jon Faddis.

This all-star pairing came together in an attempt to combine two headlining personalities to create what is sure to be an amazing educational experience for St. Louis area students and teachers.

As with most of our Residencies, the musicians will be working with area students, conducting master classes, clinic and workshops beginning Monday, April 4 thru Thursday, April 5.  The schools they will be visiting include Webster Groves High School, Kirkwood High School, Riverview Gardens High School, Parkway Central Middle School, East St. Louis Senior High, McKinley Classical Junior Academy, Maplewood/Richmond Heights High, Central Jr. High (IL) and Lindbergh High School.

In addition, they will be working with the 45 students involved in Jazz St. Louis’ JazzU and All-Star programs.

For those middle school, high school and college musicians, Jon Faddis will be conducting a trumpet master class in the Rialto Ballroom, on the 4th floor of the Centene Center for Arts and Education from 1-2 pm on Wednesday, April 6.

Because the two have so much to offer, they will be spending most of the week at different locations coming together at the end of the week for two much anticipated nights at Jazz at the Bistro on April 8 and 9.
