The Grammys

I can't tell you how great it was to see Herbie Hancock's album "River, The Joni Letters" win the Grammy for "Album of the Year". I often ignore the Grammy Awards show because the television broadcast gives short shrift to jazz artists. Usually, all we get is the "awarded at a ceremony earlier today." But this time, and for the first time in 43 years, a jazz album got the kind of recognition that it deserves. I hope this inspires people to check out more of Herbie's work, leading them to discover the wonderful world of Jazz. I know this seems like a crazy dream, but after seeing a jazz album finally named "Album of the Year", I am beginning to think anything is possible.
BTW, it was great to see Terrance Blanchard win "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album" for his recording "A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem fo Katrina). Terrance is a good friend of Jazz St. Louis and we hope to see him at the club soon.
