Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival

This April, Jazz St. Louis partners with the University of Missouri-St. Louis to present the Greater St. Louis Jazz Festival. The Bistro will also be the site for the festival’s combo performances (during the day on April 16th & 17th), as well as the small group concert on Wednesday evening. This year, the quintet will feature pianist Shelly Berg, trombonist Paul McKee and saxophonist Tom Scott joining UMSL faculty Jim Widner (bass) and Miles Vandiver (drums).
Average White Band

The Average White Band are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit "Pick up the Pieces," the band's strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and mulitiple Grammy nonimations for the legendary Atlantic Records.

Celebrate the life and music of "Lady Jazz" Mae Wheeler. Featured performers will include Nancy Kranzberg, Adaron "Pops" Jackson's trio and several special guests, including "Lady Jazz" herself. All proceeds will benefit Mae Wheeler.

Jeremy Davenport returns home for his annual Thanksgiving weekend performances. Davenport has absorbed the soul and spirit of New Orleans since relocating there many years ago, and his live performances continue to establish him as one of the premier entertainers in jazz today.

Hamiet Bluiett brings his own band to the Bistro for the first time in celebratory fashion. The legendary saxophonist and cofounder of the World Saxophone Quartet is by far the most prominent baritone saxophonist of his generation. Bluiett possesses a sound so huge that it extends from his horn’s lowest reaches to far beyond what is usually its highest register.
