In strategic partnership with select area middle schools, Jazz Academy teaches music fundamentals through jazz, accelerating student development and empowering students to be leaders in their schools and band programs. Jazz Academy fosters a sense of community by creating a safe environment that encourages creative risk-taking and personal investment in jazz.

Members meet three times a week after school in the Centene Jazz Education Center. Each week, Jazz Academy students receive individual lessons, ensemble instruction, supplemental music assignments, snacks, dinner, transportation, and academic support as needed. Additionally, all Jazz Academy students come together monthly for Saturday Sessions, focused on larger rehearsals and sectionals. Students also get the chance to work with touring artists through the Artist Residency program, attend Jazz St. Louis shows for free, and perform on the Jazz St. Louis stage.

Jazz Academy’s 2023-24 program year will begin on Tuesday, September 12th.

*As space is limited, students from partner schools are admitted first. As space is available, other students may be considered.
